For this episode, a retrospective of 26 years of programming Shortwave, featuring one selection of each year inclusive from 1999 to 2025, in chronological order. Sometimes the songs match the years or predict the future -- 2000's "Millenium" by Submission featuring Tikiman, the predictions in 2001's "Artificial Intelligence" by Phoenix Orion & Team Eloheem, and yearning for "Touch (Poolside Remix)" by Big Wild in the pandemic year of 2020, and appropriately ending with "Endsong (Orbital Remix)" by the Cure from 2025.
But aside from some intentional selections such as those, for all selections, I wanted something from each year that I had a special feeling about, something that has lasted over the years since it became part of an annual best of. And I wanted diversity of styles of electronica too. There are a number of female producers and artists here; I wish there were more. Genres in this mix include ambient, dub, rap, techno, "drill and bass", jazz, electro, IDM, downtempo, jungle, disco, electro pop, and drum and bass. I love me some house music, seems odd that there isn't a proper house track in the mix. But that's how it worked out this time.
It was mixed live on a Pioneer DDJ-Rev1 controller. To prepare, I went through the 26 years of shows, each containing 40 to 60 and one time 90 tracks; so about 1300ish tracks, selected about 5 from each year, then started at 2000 and selected for each year up until 2025.
